Scientific Name: Lorius lory erythrothorax
At Dysons Wood Aviaries we breed the Blue-Breasted Black-Capped Lory. Although very similar to the Red-Breasted, there is subtle differences in the ratio of red to blue colouration on the front of the bird.
Other members of the Lorius genus include the Purple-Bellied Lory, the Yellow-Bibbed Lory, the White-Naped Lory, the Purple-Naped Lory, and the Chattering Lory; a species that we also breed here at Dysons Wood Aviaries.
Endemic to Indonesia, the Black-Capped Lory is one of the larger species of Exotic Lory that we have the pleasure of keeping. We would rate this species as being very interactive, and as a hand raised bird they are incredible companion pets. However they are full of beans, so if you want a bird that will sit still the Black-Capped Lory won’t be for you. They do enjoy their cuddles, but they’re highly inquisitive and adore exploring & playing. You won’t be bored or without laughs owning a Black-Capped Lory.
We currently have a single Cock bird and are on the hunt for a cracking Hen!
